After launching it earlier in March in China, Xiaomi today brought the Black Shark 2 gaming smartphone to India. Powered by the top-end Snapdragon 855 chipset and featuring a radical new liquid cooling technology, the Black Shark 2 is the most expensive Xiaomi smartphone to launch in India so far.

With the Black Shark 2, Xiaomi is finally going high-end in India. While it did launch some flagship Mi smartphones in India, Xiaomi has since stuck to mid-range and affordable smartphone segments. The Black Shark 2, though, goes all the way up to ₹49,999, making it one the costliest Xiaomi products in India so far.

Black Shark 2 specifications

The Black Shark 2 is a high-end gaming smartphone and its aesthetics go with the overall theme of the smartphone.

The Black Shark 2 features a 6.39-inch Full HD+ resolution AMOLED display with DCI-P3 and HDR support. It also has an in-display fingerprint sensor. Xiaomi revealed that it has worked to drastically reduce touch latency, bringing it down to just 43.5ms, which is far better than most other flagship smartphones.

In terms of power, the Black Shark 2 has the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset that is paired with 6GB or 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage. The phone runs on Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10 on top.

To keep the phone cool during long gaming sessions, Xiaomi has used Liquid Cooling 3.0 technology that features a tower-wide liquid cooled plate. This helps in reducing the core CPU temperatures by up to 14C. This should help a lot in preventing thermal throttling from kicking in and reducing phone performance.

In terms of imaging, the Black Shark 2 has a dual camera setup on the back with a 48MP camera with Sony IMX 586 sensor, and a 12MP telephoto lens. On the front, it has a 20MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.

Other than that, the Black Shark includes standard connectivity options like dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and USB Type C. It is powered by a 4,000mAh battery and includes support for 27W fast charging.

Black Shark 2 price

The Black Shark 2 is priced at ₹39,999 for the 6GB variant and ₹49,999 for the 12GB variant. It will go on sale on Flipkart from June 4th.
