Earlier this year, there were rumors of Google launching two new mid-range phones. A recent ARCore apk teardown revealed that the code names for these devices were Bonito and Sargo. The code names are in line with previous Google code names that have also been based on names of fish.
A recent leak suggests that we might have a look at one of these mid-range smartphones.
The Russian website 'Roztked' that was behind the full unboxing of the Google Pixel and Pixel 3 leaks and teardowns at least a week before the official announcement, has brought the new leak to light. The pictures of the new smartphone suggest a Pixel 2 like design language and similar camera hardware. The phone is also seen to have dual cutouts for the speaker and a 3.5mm headphone jack on top.
In the leaked images, it appears to have the traditional Pixel dual tone finish, though this one seems to have a plastic body, being a mid-range phone. Also, it has the iconic colored power button that fans love about the design. Apart from that, it is one of the more traditional looking smartphones, considering all the sliding camera phones and waterdrop notches and what have you that are available in the market.
The phone was run through Geekbench and has unofficially confirmed the codename Sargo. The tests have also confirmed some of the technical specifications of the phone. It is equipped with a 4GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 2,915 mAH battery and a 5.56 IPS LCD display panel. The smartphone will be powered by the mid-tier Snapdragon 670 and an Adreno 615 GPU. The camera hardware seems similar to the normal Pixel devices with a 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. It is not known how well the camera will fare in a mid-range device like this, but if the cameras are anywhere near the Pixel cameras, it will change the mid-range smartphone bracket.
Though there is no word on pricing yet, it can be assumed that a Google Pixel phone deemed mid range will naturally be more expensive than other devices with similar specifications. One will have to be patient to know more details of the device.
