HMD Global's first notch design phone, Nokia 6.1 Plus launched in India

Finnish smartphone maker Nokia under HMD Global has announced the launch of two new budget devices in India. Dubbed as the Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Nokia 5.1 Plus, these phones were announced in China as the Nokia X6 and the Nokia X5 respectively. As we reported earlier, the two devices will be available exclusively from Flipkart in India.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus and 5.1 Plus were announced by HMD Global at the MWC 2018 held in Barcelona earlier this year. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is the first device from Nokia to feature a notch display and the Nokia 5.1 Plus features a notch as well. Both the devices are part of Google's Android One program.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and features a 5.8-inch full HD+ display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

In terms of performance, the Nokia 6.1 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC coupled with Adreno 509 GPU. In terms of memory, the device features 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be further expanded up to 400GB via a microSD card.

Coming to the camera department, the Nokia 6.1 Plus features a dual camera setup at the back consisting of a 16MP primary with f/2.0 aperture, 1.0um pixel size, EIS, dual LED flash and a secondary 5MP camera with f/2.2 aperture and 1.2um pixel size. On the front, the device sports a 16MP selfie camera f/2.0 aperture and 1.0um pixel size.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus is powered by a 3,060mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. Connectivity options on the device include dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac, 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and a USB Type-C port.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus features a 5.86-inch HD+ 2.5D curved glass display with a resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. Just like the Nokia 6.1 Plus, the Nokia 5.1 Plus also has a notch display.

In terms of performance, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P60 SoC coupled with Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. In terms of memory, the device will be available in two variants - 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage.

Coming to the camera department, the Nokia 5.1 Plus features a dual camera setup at the back consisting of a 13MP primary camera with phase detection autofocus, f/2.0 aperture, LED Flash and a secondary 5MP camera. On the front, the device sports an 8MP selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture and an 80.4-degree wide-angle lens.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus is powered by a 3,060mAh battery. Connectivity options on the device include dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac, 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and a USB Type-C port.

Pricing and availability

The Nokia 6.1 Plus has been priced at Rs. 15,999 and will be available exclusively from Flipkart starting from August 30 and Nokia online store. On the other hand, the Nokia 5.1 Plus will be available in September and the pricing will be announced next month. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is available for pre-order starting from today on Flipkart and Nokia Online store.
