Last year, when Xiaomi announced the Poco F1, it grabbed many eyeballs as it was dubbed as the cheapest smartphone featuring the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC in addition to other flagship specifications.
With flagship grade specifications and a very affordable price, the company hit the sweet spot with the device, making it the costliest Xiaomi phone to become popular in the country. Since then, the phone's popularity has grown and now, it has become the number 1 online selling smartphone priced above ₹15,000, beating even the fan favourite OnePlus 6.
According to a IDC report, the criteria that rank the Poco F1 as the number one smartphone is the number of devices sold over the ₹15,000 mark in the country.
The reason that the Poco F1 overtook the OnePlus 6 can largely be owed to the fact that it provided a Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 6GB or 8GB RAM. Add to that the fact that the phone was priced starting at a sub ₹20,000 price point and you've got a winner.
The phone quickly gained attention and enthusiasts rushed online to purchase the phone. The OnePlus 6 on the other hand, offered similar specifications, but at a higher price, which led users to opt for the Poco instead.
In comparison, while the OnePlus 6 is a more premium device featuring a better display and cameras, it costs 75% more than the Poco F1's base variant. Moreover, the OnePlus 6 is no longer being sold, and that has been the case for a few weeks now.
Though the Poco F1 was something of an experiment by Xiaomi, it was quite a hit. Still, the phone had a few issues at launch such as the fact that Netflix wouldn't run at full HD and so on, fans still chose this smartphone over other devices in the market.
To recall, the Poco F1 is priced at ₹19,999 for the 6GB + 64GB model, ₹20,999 for the 6GB + 128GB model and ₹27,999 for the 8GB + 256GB model.
What's great is that following the success of the phone, Xiaomi is also expected to launch the Poco F1's successor in the coming months, presumably with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset.
