Xiaomi is gearing up to launch a new budget smartphone in the Redmi Note series. The new smartphone is confirmed to be the Redmi Note 7S and will likely succeed the Redmi Note 7 that was launched in February this year.

Redmi Note 7S specifications

The Redmi Note 7S is officially expected to be launched on 20 May. Ahead of the launch, most of the important specifications of the device have been leaked. The most important detail of them all is of course the camera, and this particular bit of information was revealed by Xiaomi themselves.

According to the information revealed so far, the Redmi Note 7S could just be the Chinese variant of the Redmi Note 7. As such, the major change will be the rear camera. Xiaomi has confirmed that the Redmi Note 7S will come with a 48MP rear camera with Sony IMX 586 sensor. This is the same sensor that is present in the Redmi Note 7 Pro as well.

Other than the 48MP primary camera and a 5MP secondary camera, the Redmi Note 7S is said to feature a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display and a 13MP front camera. It could be powered by the Snapdragon 660 chipset paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The device could be backed by a 4,000mAh battery.

Essentially, Xiaomi could be replacing the Redmi Note 7 with the 7S. This may also push a lot of prospective Redmi Note 7 Pro buyers towards the Redmi Note 7S, since the camera hardware, display, battery and design are all expected to be the same in both the smartphones. Xiaomi could launch the Redmi Note 7S at a slightly lower price - some reports suggest that it could start at Rs 9,999, but this is mere speculation at this point.

We should know the exact details about the Redmi Note 7S on 20th May.
