The US based music streaming giant, Spotify has long been one of the best and most reliable music streaming apps in the world. Some even go so far as to call it the Netflix of music. The problem with Spotify, however was that it was present only in a few countries in the west. Now, rumor has it that Spotify may launch in India by the end of January with a couple of launch bonuses.
In a report by Variety, it is speculated that Spotify is having some sort of a launch party in its India head office, which could be the launch of app in India. Additionally, the company also signed a deal with Indian music giant, T-Series to make their music available on the streaming app. As of now, there are no details about a partnership with other music companies such as Sony Music, Universal and others.
The reason for signing a deal with T-Series comes as a great factor as it will ensure that there is enough bollywood music content for users upon the launch of the streaming service. In India, Spotify has enough competition such as Google Play Music, JioSaavn (a Reliance Jio and Saavn conglomerate), Amazon Prime Music and Airtel's Gaana service, Spotify will have to offer something unique to make a mark in India.
As for Spotify's venture in India, they recently entered many international markets like North Africa and the Middle East, expanding their services to over 70 markets. Spotify's India plans have been making the rounds for years and it hinted towards a launch after opening an office in Mumbai and hiring 300 people in March.
The launch of the music streaming service to India comes as a surprise and has been much awaited by music fans all over. Users in India had to resort to using VPNs and bypasses that allowed them to use the service, but now, Spotify will be natively supported.
