WhatsApp today started rolling out the much awaited 'Swipe to reply' and Picture in Picture (PiP) mode for Android users. Currently, the new features are available only for WhatsApp Beta users and the general rollout is expected to begin soon.
The new PiP mode was first spotted by WABetaInfo and now, the feature has been added in the version 2.18.234. In the PiP mode, when users click on videos from certain platforms while on WhatsApp, a small window pops up, allowing the user to watch the video while chatting.
For now, the platforms are limited to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Streamable. Also, you need to remember that the video will stop playing if you switch to a different chat. The PiP feature has been available for iOS users for some time and the Android version is finally catching up.
Earlier, WhatsApp had announced a PiP mode for video calling, allowing you to carry on with other things while video calling on WhatsApp. The new PiP mode for video streaming is similar to this feature.
In addition to this, the beta version of WhatsApp has also received the Swipe to reply, another feature that has been available for iOS users for some time now. This feature is faster than the traditional way of replying to messages on WhatsApp.
The 'Swipe to reply' feature allows you to reply to a message by swiping the message sideways. When you swipe a message, an empty reply box will pop up, allowing you to type your message.
The PiP mode and Swipe to reply features are expected to be rolled out for all users in the coming days.
