Microsoft Windows 10 is the most used operating system: Report

Launched in the summer of 2015, Microsoft's Windows 10 has now become the operating system with the most market share. Previously, Windows 7 had a bigger piece of the pie but with the October update now rolling out to users, a large chunk of the market share, 39.22% to be precise, is now captured by Windows 10.

These stats were reported by Net MarketShare which is an independent third-party market tracker. Going by the list, Windows 7 is still going strong at 36.90% share followed by Mac OS X 10.14 Mojave.

Interestingly, earlier Windows versions like XP, 8.1 and 8 also find a place in the overall market share with 4.54%, 4.45% and 0.88% respectively.

Microsoft missed their mark last year where they had predicted Windows 10 to be running on a billion devices by the end of 2018 and managed only around 700 million. However, now that the Windows 10 is slowly starting to trickle down, that number doesn't look very far away.

Microsoft has resumed the public rollout of Windows 10 Version 1809 a.k.a October 2018 update after a series of bugs and glitches forced the Redmond giant to pause the update cycle. The new version brings a couple of new features and fixes including the support for the dark mode in File Explorer.
