Xiaomi announced the launch of its ShareSave e-commerce platform in India, allowing its fans and customers to order Mi ecosystem products that are exclusively available in China. Xiaomi is trying to leverage the concept of word of mouth with ShareSave, offering buyers discounts when they buy products with their friends.
After creating the Redmi sub-brand, it looks like Xiaomi is increasingly focusing on itself as a lifestyle company. This is clearly visible from the vast portfolio of products that the company sells in its home country, China.
However, Xiaomi sells only a handful of products in India, most of them being smartphones and TVs. Only recently did the company bring products like pillows, luggage bags, backpacks, weighing scales and more. These products are still miniscule compared to vast number of products on sale in China. With the new ShareSave platform, Xiaomi seems to be trying to work towards bringing more products to India.
Revealing the details in a blog post, Xiaomi said,
'Xiaomi strongly believes in the power of communities and Mi Fans, and the social aspect of ShareSave is a perfect reflection of this. ShareSave allows for a place where Mi Fans connect, enjoy and share a unique #SharetoSave shopping experience. It also serves as a testing ground for key markets, allowing Xiaomi to learn more about the local demand for various types of product,'
Xiaomi's ShareSave platform has three different concepts, all based on the concepts of community and crowdsourcing. Users can choose to buy products outright at the listed prices or use the following methods to score some good discounts.
As Xiaomi is trying to suggest with the name, you can buy a product at a discounted price if you get your friend to also buy the same product. This way, both you and your friend can score a decent discount while Xiaomi gets to sell two units of the same product. A win-win, if you will.
The second ShareSave concept is a little interesting, in that you can choose a product from a list and invite your friends to that particular Drop (product). As more and more friends join you on that Drop, the price keeps reducing. Once the price reaches the target, you can either get the product for free or at a 50% discount.
This lets you crowdfund a product you believe in, with contributions starting from as low as $0.2, or about ₹14 approximately. When the product reaches its funding target, you will get a voucher that is worth ten times of your contribution.
Xiaomi ShareSave is available for download from Google Play store.
