Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has launched the third generation Mi Mix smartphone, dubbed as the Mi Mix 3 in its home country China. What sets this device apart from its predecessors is the manual pop-up magnetic slider that allows it to provide a near-bezel less display without using a notch.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is equipped with four cameras, up to 10GB RAM, Snapdragon 845 SoC and wireless charging support. Following in the footsteps of Samsung and Google, Xiaomi has added a dedicated button to launch its Xiao AI voice assistant.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 features a big 6.39-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels), with a screen-to-body ratio of 93.4% and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Xiaomi has sourced the panels from Samsung for its latest flagship smartphone.
Powering the Mi Mix 3 is the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, paired with Adreno 630 GPU. In terms of memory and storage, the Mi Mix 3 comes in four variants - 6GB RAM with 128GB UFS2.1 storage, 8GB RAM with 128GB or 256GB storage and 10GB RAM with 256GB storage. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 10 on top. While it is a little disappointing that Xiaomi is launching the phone with an update that is more than a year old now, the Mi Mix 3 should get the Android 9.0 Pie update in the coming months.
One of the main highlights of the Mi Mix 3 is its camera setup and the slider mechanism. Xiaomi has opted for a slide-out camera design instead of a notched display, while still achieving an almost bezel-less design. The Mi Mix 3 has a manual magnetic slider, which has dual cameras for selfies along with other sensors, negating the need for a notch.
Talking about the camera specs, the Mi Mix 3 has two cameras on the back and two cameras on the front. On the back, there is a 12MP primary camera with a wide-angle lens and 1.4um pixel size, 4-axis OIS, optical zoom, 4K video recording support, 960fps slo-mo recording. A 12MP secondary camera with 2x zoom is also present to assist the main camera.
On the front, there is a 24MP primary camera with Super Pixel low-light technology for enhanced selfies, along with a 2MP secondary camera for capturing depth information for portrait mode.
Other features of the Mi Mix 3 include a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, dual SIM and dual 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi ac 4x4 MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/GLONASS, NFC and USB Type C port. The phone also supports 10W fast wireless charging, in addition to Quick Charge 4.0+ fast charging for wired charging. It is backed by a 3,200mAh battery.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 comes in three color options - Onyx Black, Sapphire Blue and Jade Green. The 10GB variant is the Palace Museum special edition that comes with a 24K gold-coated bronze statue. The Mi Mix 3 pricing is as follows:
6GB+128GB variant - CNY 3299 (₹34,800 approx)
8GB+128GB variant - CNY 3599 (₹38,000 approx)
