Xiaomi's Mix series, which began as a concept seems to have matured enough now that the company is gearing to announce the Mi Mix 3, the fourth in the series. The Chinese electronics manufacturer will take wraps off the smartphone on October 25 at an event in Beijing, China.
The Mix phones have always stood out from the crowd, and with every iteration, they seem to get more functional and handy. With the Mi Mix 3 however, Xiaomi has gone a step ahead in making sure that the phone is future-proof as well. The Mix 3 will be the first commercially available phone that supports 5G cellular networks.
Xiaomi has started teasing the smartphone on its various social media handles and there are some really interesting tidbits out there now that reveal some key features.
Earlier this week, Donovan Sung, Spokesperson for Xiaomi Global revealed that the Mi Mix 3 will have 10GB of RAM. While there have also been reports of a 10GB RAM version of the Oppo Find X incoming, Xiaomi could really steal that limelight away on October 25, the Mi Mix 3 becoming the world's first smartphone with 10GB of RAM.
Recently, Zhi Zhiyuan, Xiaomi's Product Marketing Director posted a screenshot from the Mix 3 which was later revealed to be of full HD+ (2340x1080 pixels) resolution. This gives the Mix 3 an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 increasing the screen-to-body-ratio by a bit.
As evident from the aspect ratio, the Mi Mix 3 could feature an OLED panel measuring around 6-inches. The Mi Mix 3 will have no notch on the front as it is made redundant by the slide design of the phone. The camera modules, both front and back seem to be placed in a motorized shell that pops up and down as and when the camera is required.
A recent teaser shared by the company on Twitter reveals that the Mi Mix 3 will sport a dual camera setup on the front. Out of the two camera units, the primary one is a 24-megapixel snapper which is assisted by a soft LED flash.
Xiaomi has always tried to achieve the most screen-to-body ratio with the Mix smartphones and this slider design will take them a step ahead.
As the front-facing camera is now relocated into the slider, we can now expect it to be at par with other flagship smartphones. It could also now assist in 3D face unlock which will make a really good addition.
The Mi Mix 3 is also expected to ditch the fingerprint sensor and will have an in-display sensor instead.
The Mi Mix 3 is expected to come in three color variants. Different versions of Mix 3 will be announced as well. The base variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage is expected to be priced at $510 while the 128GB variant will be up for $555. Mi Mix 3 with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is rumored to retail for $600 and $645 for 256GB variant. There will be a Mi Mix 3 variant with 10GB of RAM as well.
