OnePlus is back with another killer smartphone. Six months after announcing the OnePlus 6, one of the most popular smartphones of 2018, OnePlus has made it historical bringing its successor into the limelight. On Monday, OnePlus 6T broke the covers at an event in Brooklyn, New York. Why New York, you ask? Well, because of the newfound partnership between OnePlus and T-Mobile, after which OnePlus 6T will be available in the States as well.
The OnePlus 6T is a new smartphone by all means even if we look at it as an update to the OnePlus 5T and a minimal upgrade to the OnePlus 6. It has a couple of tricks up its sleeve which is why we are listing out the key changes about the OnePlus 6T. Take a look.
One of the biggest highlights of the OnePlus 6T is the in-display fingerprint sensor embedded into the display itself. Sourced from Synaptics, this fourth-generation in-display scanner will unlock your OnePlus 6T in 0.34 seconds.
According to OnePlus, the in-display fingerprint sensor will gradually learn and improve the fingerprint data, meaning that it will unlock the phone even faster upon regular usage.
Synaptic's fingerprint sensor is embedded under the display which projects green light via the panel to read a user's fingerprint. There are three different screen unlock animations for users to choose from, which makes the whole unlocking experience more tactile.
All of this happens in the blink of an eye and while it may not be as fast as a physical fingerprint sensor, it will get there considering OnePlus' reputation.
One of the major physical updates that OnePlus has done to the 6T is the redesigned notch. The waterdrop-resembling notch on the front now looks more in sync with the curves on the edges of the screen allowing it to fit in a bigger display.
OnePlus was also able to shrink the chin further by 1.5mm on the 6T giving users more screen estate to play around with.
The OnePlus 6T features a 6.41-inch AMOLED display on the front and due to the waterdrop notch, OnePlus is able to provide an 85.6% screen-to-body ratio. The 6T looks a lot tidier with the subtle notch and gives the front of the phone a more unified outlook that just looks pleasing to the eye.
With the OnePlus 6T, the company introduced Nightscape or Night mode for cameras. The concept behind Nightscape isn't new to speak but it stands out as OnePlus ventured into computational photography by choosing to include this feature. The night mode processes multiple frames to produce a well-lit picture during the night.
Nightscape reduces the ISO and decreases the shutter speed which essentially allows more light to be captured by the sensor. This works in tandem with OnePlus' algorithm that stitches together multiple frames of the shot to compensate for the shakiness that would normally creep into the pictures when holding it in the hand at that shutter speed.
One of the smart features on the OnePlus 6T is the Smart Boost. Now, how the Smart Boost works is pretty simple. Whenever a heavy, graphics intensive app is launched, the RAM on the 6T is used as ROM making load time of games like Asphalt 9 Legends and PUBG Mobile up to 20% faster.
OnePlus has almost always provided larger RAM with their smartphones and that continues with the 6T as well. The base variant of the OnePlus 6T now has 6GB of RAM as opposed to 4GB on the OnePlus 6. Larger RAM along with Snapdragon 845 and Oxygen OS customizations makes for a beastly performance that still remains unmatched, be it the OnePlus 6 or the 6T.
The OnePlus 6T also receives a minor bump in the battery capacity and now features a 3,700mAh Lithium-Polymer battery. It also supports fast charging by the company's proprietary Dash Charge which is known to rapidly recharge the OnePlus' phones. You get a day's power in just half an hour of charge!
