There's no denying that of late, cheap phones are getting good and good phones are getting cheap. The latest, 'cheap' phones to enter the highly aggressive market happen to be the Realme 5 series phones- the Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro. The phones bring a whole lot of new features to the table and still manage to keep a reasonable price about them. Read on to know all the launch details of the two phones.
In terms of both, design as well as display, the Realme 5 amps things up and is pushing the boundaries. The phone has a plastic back which looks quite like glass but the reflection of light adds a neat touch to the back of the phone. The Realme 5 Pro has a more well made back design, with an interesting design element that bounces off lights to showcase an array of colours.
As for the display, the two phones come with water drop style notches, which are pretty common these days. The Realme 5 packs in a respectable screen with a size of 6.5-inches and a resolution of 720x1600 pixels. In fact, instead of sporting the regular 18:9 aspect ratio, the phone has a slightly taller 20:9 aspect ratio, which means that you've got more space for vertical content.
The Realme 5 Pro has a different set up. With a screen size of 6.3-inches and a more standard, 19:9 aspect ratio, the phone combines it well with the Full HD+ resolution. This makes for more a crisp view experience no matter what you're doing on the phone.
Here's where things get interesting as both the phones, for the price segment, pack some seriously competitive specifications and give the other phones in the segment a run for their money.
The Realme 5 comes with a Snapdragon 665, which is a first in India and only the second in the world. Surely, this phone could be a good competitor to phones at a similar price point. As for the RAM, the phone comes in two variations- 3GB and 4GB RAM, both of which should outperform phones in the class. However, we would suggest going with the 4GB variant, as it's more future proof and promises longevity. In the 4GB variant, there are two storage options- 64GB and 128GB, with a slight price difference.
On the other hand, we have the Realme 5 Pro, the more powerful version of this phone. It comes with a Snapdragon 712, another well performing chipset in three variants. You can get the phone in either 4, 6 or 8GB of RAM. The multiple storage options are great for the variety of users in the Indian market today. The phone should fare well during long gaming sessions, owing to the 712 chipset, a step up from the Snapdragon 710.
This is one segment that Realme is seriously highlighting with these two phones. The phones come with quad cameras at the back, which is rare in the price segment that these phone have launched at. The Realme 5 has a primary 12-megapixel camera, an ultrawide lens, a lens for portrait mode and another one for close ups. The camera performance should be quite good considering the 4 cameras, but we'll have to wait and see how it fares.
As for the Realme 5 Pro, it has the same lenses, except for the 48-megapixel primary shooter which should make your pictures a lot more detailed.
This is where one of the biggest differences in both the mobile phones. The Realme 5 comes with a big 5,000mAH battery whereas the Realme 5 Pro comes with a slightly smaller 4,035mAH. As for the operating system, both the phones come loaded with Android 9.0 Pie. Both the phones will also come with Realme's own skin applied on top of the stock Android UI.
Both the phones come in various specifications and differences, but we have the starting prices for both of them. The Realme 5 starts at a price of ₹9,999 and will be available from August 27, 2019. As for the more powerful Realme 5 Pro, it will come at a price of ₹13,999 and can be purchased from September 13, 2019.
