Both the Realme U1 and the Honor 8C are phones that have recently been launched in the sub-₹15,000 department. They are similar in their price points- starting at a price of ₹11,999 and competing against one another as well as Xiaomi's budget phones. Let's see how the similarly priced phones fare against one another.
Let's face it. Almost every other phone that is launched these days comes with a notch on the front. The Realme U1 tackles this problem by adopting a OnePlus 6T styled waterdrop notch and a slim bottom bezel. The Honor 8C on the other hand sports the regular rectangular notch that has become a trend. It must be noted, however, that the notch is marginally smaller than we have seen on other phones.
At the back, the Honor 8C has a plastic body that houses the dual camera setup and the fingerprint sensor. The Realme U1, on the other hand, has a laminated back that gives it a look similar to a glass back. The U1, like the 8C houses the camera set up and fingerprint sensor at the back.
Since both the Realme U1 and the Honor 8C start at the same price, one would expect them to have similar specifications. The Realme U1 comes in with a MediaTek Helio P70 clocked at 2.1GHz while the Honor 8C comes with the more mainstream Snapdragon 636 with a clock speed of 1.8GHz.
Both the phones have more or less similar 6-inch displays but the resolutions differ. The Realme U1 has a higher resolution of 2340 x 1080pixels while the Honor 8C has a lower resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels. Both the phones sport taller aspect ratios with the Realme U1 having a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and the Honor 8C with a 19:9 aspect ratio. Another feature that the U1 has and the 8C doesn't, is the Gorilla Glass. The U1 uses an older Gorilla glass 3 which is better than having no gorilla glass protection at all.
In the camera department, the Realme U1 and the Honor 8C have similar primary and secondary sensors at 13-megapixels and 2-megapixels. The difference lies in the aperture of the primary 13-megapixels. The U1 has a smaller f/2.2 aperture while the 8C has a wider f/1.8 aperture. The Realme U1 is the self-touted selfie king of the price bracket and sports an impressive 25-megapixel sensor up front. Though, on the Honor 8C, there is an 8-megapixel sensor in the front camera.
Moving on to the battery size, the Realme U1 has a mere 3500mAH sized battery which is outclassed by the higher 4000mAH battery on the Honor 8C. Both the phones run on Android v8.1 Oreo with their own skins applied. The U1 has a ColorOS 5.2 skin and the 8C has an EMUI 8.2 skin applied on top.
The base variants of both the phones have the same price of ₹11,999. The base model of the Realme U1 has a 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage while the Honor 8C's base variant has a higher 4GB RAM but the same internal storage. The higher-end model of the Realme U1 sports a 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and is priced at ₹14,499. The Honor 8C provides a 4GB RAM with 64GB storage at a price of ₹12,999. Both the phones can be bought from Amazon India. The 8C will be available for sale in India on the 10th of December while the U1 is already available on the e-commerce website.
